Music has always been a part of my life.
Music has always been a part of my life from the time I was a child.
My saxophone playing father would take me to his gigs when I was a baby and
I would crawl up and dance on stage with him or any other band at an event.
When I was 3years old, I began going to the Hungry Monk Music school for young children.
That is where I first started playing piano (The photo above is one of my recitals)
When I started elementary school we would go to school an hour early to avoid traffic
and I'd play the piano in the practice rooms before class.
I remember the lady working in the cafeteria used to give me chocolate milk on the way up:)
We spent a lot of time outdoors and it was a lot of fun to hang out with other musicians at campfire jams.
Some how, it seemed I was always on stage.
There always seemed to be opportunities for acting, dance, theater, and film at school
and at some of the private groups around Charleston.
Formal lessons were not my favorite. It became more enjoyable when I started doing things on my own.
As a child, I began writing music for class at the Hungry Monk and began playing ukulele in middle school.
I'd write songs and perform them for my friends.
In High School, I auditioned and was accepted into boarding school for the dramatic arts.
Later, I started learning guitar fairly self-taught.
Many of the songs for “The Nereids” were written when I was in high school.
It took some time to find the right producer for the project.
I was grateful for the early support from producer, Chris Dodson in Charleston.
Everything seemed to align when a friend I worked with at the Green River Preserve
began talking as we were backpacking through the Appalachia.
Through that friend, I connected with the fantastic producer, Moses.
That's what led me to go to Brooklyn, New York to record
and now here we are…!
